For Spunky Doodle, I have a new holiday story called Doug the Dog and his Howling Halloween

On December 7, 2050, in New York City, in a café near Times Square, David O'Neill, a 35-year-old unemployed news editor, sits at a small table reading the news from a disposable tablet. The low hum of the radio playing a familiar song in the background suddenly switches to the Weather Channel.
" It looks like it will be a frigid day, reaching temperatures of -15. Half listening to the forecast, David is more interested in the article that should have gotten him full-time work at the New York Globe. Instead, it just turned out to be another freelance opportunity with a dead end. He made decent money, enough to get him through a week or two, but he needed more. Finishing his coffee, he left a tip and tossed his disposable tablet into a recycling bin. On the way out of the café, he walked down the street in midtown Manhattan. It was 9:45 AM. The sidewalks are packet mostly delivery bots. It's been 15 years since they became a common occurrence, but like most, David still can't get used to it because they are inconvenient for people trying to get around the city. It was better when a central computer controlled them, but it put a lot of people out of work, so the government stepped in with a solution. Everyone would still have a job that would involve controlling a specific robot doing a task from home on a computer.
Doug woke up excitedly on a crisp autumn day because this was no ordinary day. It was the 31st of October, and Hollowing was one of Doug's favorite holidays, full of mystery and wonder. He stretched his paws past the edges of his doggie bed and jumped up, eager for the day's events. His owner, Oliver, would always throw a party on Halloween night. Doug was so happy thinking of all the people he would get to see, not to mention the treats and the ear rubs. Peter Parakeet was also looking forward to the party as he tidied up his cage.
Doug walked into the kitchen, where Oliver was preparing his breakfast and getting things ready for tonight. He set Doug's bowl in the usual spot, gave him a pat on the head, and said,
